CURVE TO HOLD FRIVOLOUS LAWSUIT NIGHT JULY 2nd AT BCB

May 23, 2006

ALTOONA- Inspired by a Los Angeles Angels fan who filed a lawsuit against the club because he did not receive a red nylon tote bag as part of the major league club's Mother’s Day promotion last May, the Altoona Curve have announced that they will be holding Salute to Frivolous Lawsuit Night as part of their Sunday, July 2nd game at Blair County Ballpark.

The Curve’s salute to all ridiculous lawsuits ever filed will include the following:

A Pink Tote Bag Giveaway to the first 137 men in attendance ages 18 and over

The first 137 women 18 and over will receive lukewarm coffee so they will not burn themselves

The first 137 kids will be given a beach ball with a warning not to ingest it

Angels merchandise and novelty items given away throughout the game

Honoring some of history's "Most Frivolous Lawsuits" during the game

A grand prize drawing in which one fan will receive a “clue” and their own frivolous lawsuit.

Additional details will be announced later

“We realize that these giveaways as part of our Salute to Frivolous Lawsuit Night are fairly stupid and serve no real purpose,” said Curve General Manager Todd Parnell. “But if our fans don’t like them, then they can sue us!”

China denies having weapons agents in US

May 18, 6:00 AM (ET)

BEIJING (Reuters) - China has no covert agents in the United States trying to buy military gear on its behalf, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Thursday.

"The so-called allegations that China is conducting intelligence collection on military or science and technology in the United States are purely fictitious," spokesman Liu Jianchao told a regular news conference.

70,000 Beer Cans Found in Ogden Townhouse
May 17th, 2006 @ 9:38pm
John Hollenhorst reporting

A seemingly unbelievable mess discovered last year in an Ogden townhouse has suddenly become an Internet legend.

It's all TRUE!

You know how some people, after they use something, just can't bear to throw it away. That might make sense if it's magazines or clothes. But what if it's empty beer cans? In astounding numbers?

When property manager Ryan Froerer got a call from a realtor last year to check on a townhouse, he knew something was up.

Ryan Froerer, Century 21: "Said it was the sickest thing he's ever seen. Just unimaginable that someone could live in that."

He couldn't even open the front door. It was blocked from inside.

Raccoon survives massive electric shock
Thu May 18, 2006 8:46 AM ET

NICOSIA (Reuters) - A raccoon suffered an 11,000 volt electric shock when it scampered up a pylon in Cyprus but escaped with burns.

The nocturnal mammal triggered a two-hour power outage at the town of Aradippou in southeast Cyprus after it scaled the pylon. It was eventually captured with a net and has been impounded by vets as an illegal import.

"It suffered some burns which we treated and is now recovering ... it certainly has the will to live," Charalambos Kakoyiannis of the island's veterinary department said on Thursday.

Raccoons, a native of the Americas, were introduced to Europe last century but are alien to Cyprus and authorities said the animal, whose owner was unknown, was smuggled onto the island.

Every Adult, Child In Town May Become Millionaires

May 8, 2006

BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- One of the biggest jackpots in Nevada may not be a casino.

Residents of Boulder City could vote on a plan to make every man, woman and child there a millionaire.

An initiative that could be on the November ballot calls for the city to sell 167 square miles of undeveloped open land in one of the hottest real estate markets in the country. The property is about 25 miles southeast of Las Vegas.

The ballot measure would require the city to distribute the billions to the 15,000 residents of Boulder City.

But it's too late to move there. Only people who lived in Boulder City as of March 31 would qualify.

However, residents shouldn't start counting their millions just yet. City officials said they intend to fight the forced land sale initiative in court.
